Vestre Care
Every product is built to last. A little maintenance goes a long way. And if you need a hand, our Care team is there.
Wood
For outdoor furniture made with Linax-treated wood, we recommend inspecting and cleaning it every year, and oiling it at least every 3–5 years. Before applying the maintenance oil, ensure the product is clean and dry, and any growth or discoloration is removed. Wash with lukewarm water and then rinse off with a garden hose using normal pressure. Strong degreasing agents must not be used. Instead, use a gentle household detergent without bleach. Pine contains varying amounts of resin, which is beneficial because resin has a preservative effect on wood. Some resin may bleed out of Linax-treated wood, especially around knots. Over time, however, any resin residue will gradually wear off due to weather exposure.
Use boiled linseed oil for outdoor use when oiling the furniture. It can be applied with a roller or brush. However, too much oil can cause mould growth on the wood and leave a sticky surface. The wood may also become coated in mould if it has not been adequately cleaned and dried before the oil is applied. Mould does not damage the wood and is relatively easy to remove but has a tendency to come back.
Kebony has no maintenance needs beyond regular cleaning.
For indoor furniture, we recommend inspection and cleaning every two years. How often it will need to be oiled depends on the level of use. Use Osmo hardwax oil 3062 for maintenance. Make sure the wood is clean and dry before applying the oil in a thin layer using a foam sponge. Wipe off the excess oil with a lint-free cloth. Stained or damaged points can be sanded down with relatively fine sandpaper (p180).

Metal and surfaces
Hot-dip galvanised steel has no maintenance needs beyond regular cleaning. But steel screws and locking bolts should be tightened a couple of weeks after delivery.

Although powder-coated steel or aluminium is rust-free, the product should be cleaned to remove dirt and stains to maintain the coating’s appearance. Especially in coastal or highly polluted areas, harmful deposits can reduce shine and accelerate material degradation, which can lead to a shorter lifespan. Because of this, it is generally recommended to clean the product every 6 months or more frequently in exposed areas. Use a cleaning agent mixed with water. The agent should be neutral, without abrasives or strong solvents, and have a pH of between 5 and 8.
Powder-coated surfaces will typically change over time, and the formulation ensures that these changes occur evenly, preserving the overall appearance of the structure. After several years of exposure, the surface may still need refurbishing, even if the product has been cleaned regularly. This is especially important in areas with challenging climatic conditions. Buffing and polishing are effective methods for upgrading the appearance of the coating.
Apply the buffing medium with a lint-free cloth and rub well by hand or machine. This will remove dirt, oil and grease. To enhance the shine and improve the appearance, apply a polishing compound and repeat the process. Finish by wiping over with a clean, dry cloth.

Corten steel requires no treatment. When left undisturbed outdoors, it gradually develops a uniform, protective rust layer. This layer shields the steel from further degradation and gives it its distinctive color. We recommend leaving Corten as it is. It should not be treated with oil, lacquer, or other coatings, as this will interfere with the rusting process. If scratches or marks appear, they will usually disappear over time – the natural rust layer rebuilds itself in the affected areas. Corten steel ages gracefully. It requires minimal maintenance and only becomes more beautiful with time.

Maintenance team

Furniture that is cared for lasts longer — and keeps public spaces feeling welcoming. In partnership with Unikum, a social enterprise supported by the Church City Mission and the City of Oslo, we run maintenance teams who repair and oil Vestre furniture across Oslo. The work gives people excluded from the ordinary labour market a route back. We are expanding this model to other locations globally, reach out to your local rep if you are interested.
Everyone deserves a place — in work, in the city, and in society.
